Adding to the Kingdom of God
The Church of St Leonard does not belong to the Church of England, nor is it part of any denomination. It stands on the private estate of Wroxall Abbey Hotel (and the church building is owned and cared for by the Estate). We are an independent Christian church, established by Rev Canon Dave Cooper and his wife, Mandy in early 2023. Our ministry team is exceptional and more details about each individual can be found on our ‘ministers’ page. We have found our position, within a few steps of the hotel, to be a wonderful relationship; providing many benefits for congregants and families seeking life events, marriages - and extensive opportunities to fellowship in this place of rest and peace, following weekly services. We are also delighted to welcome hotel guests to join us - providing opportunities to share the love of Christ with travellers - another example of modern monasticism, made accessible to all.
The Church of St Leonard provides services, discipleship, communion, biblical teaching, marriages, dedications, & celebrations of life delivered by a dedicated ministry team. Our spiritual covering is provided by the Order of St Leonard (OSL); who are members of Churches Together (CTE). OSL provides membership for independent churches, with the opportunity to be in relationship with other local churches under CTE.
Our presence within this unique church on this private estate is made possible by the generosity of the management of Wroxall Abbey Hotel, our gracious hosts, who are wonderful supporters of our ministry in this community. Refreshments after services are served in the hotel, just a few steps from the church door.
The Church and Estate have a long and distinguished history of influential local connections. Beyond the medieval history, the church and Estate were once owned by Sir Christopher Wren, and members of his family are buried here. William Shakespeare’s aunt served at the priory, and Shakespeare’s family worshipped here.
